Communities In Schools of New Jersey - Camden Partners with Operation Frontline
Communities In Schools of New Jersey a 21st CCLC Program is excited to collaborate with the South Jersey Food Bank. Our after school program sites in Camden South Jersey have all joined in with Ms. Liz Gartlan and the staff from the SJFB to bring Operation Frontline to each site in Camden.
Operation Frontline is a nutrition education program that fights childhood hunger by teaching families how to make healthy and budget-wise food choices. Operation Frontline takes a cooking-centered approach to nutrition education. It brings children in touch with food and health in a long-lasting manner. The class meets once a week for 2 hours. During each class the students are getting use to cutting up vegetables and making everything from scratch, and of course they enjoy eating what they prepare.
Our Communities In Schools of New Jersey students at the Cooper's Poynt School in South Jersey were so excited about the program they worked with the computer technology teacher to design their own aprons. Operation Frontline will provide the hats. The students came up with a design for the aprons and they all decided on the vibrant red color. The students will get to keep their aprons on the final day of class. The program is a huge success and plans to return in the fall.
