YouthWORKS
Job Readiness & Summer
Internship Program at West Side High School was established by the West Side Community
Alliance, a collaboration of community agencies,
the Newark Public Schools, philanthropic
foundations and the business community. YouthWORKS
is implemented by Communities In Schools
of NJ, together with the Mayor’s Office
of Employment & Training (MOET), Newark
Public Schools School-To-Careers, The Newark
Alliance and WAVE.
Vision
Through job readiness training, career
exploration and employment opportunities,
YouthWORKS
students develop hope for the future,
marketable skills, positive relationships
with caring
adults, career goals, and a better understanding
of the correlation between academic performance
and economic opportunity. YouthWORKS
encourages independence, self-sufficiency,
responsibility,
ambition, hard work, self-respect and
respect for others, teamwork, personal
growth and
the development of personal goals and
dreams. Our vision is for our youth to
perform
at their personal best, knowing that
they are fully supported by a team of
caring
adults dedicated to their success.
